Joseph M. Rotondo, 85

Joseph M. Rotondo, of Freeport, Maine, formerly of Acton, passed away on July 12, 2023, at the age of 85. He was born in Concord to the late Pasquale and Anna (Donato) Rotondo.

Joe graduated from Concord High School in 1956 and Babson College in 1959. Following his education, he served in the U.S. Navy on the U.S.S. Lexington from 1959 until 1963.

After his military service, Joe embarked on a successful career. He worked as a John Hancock Insurance Agent until his retirement in 1992. Additionally, Joe owned and operated Brookside Farm Antiques and Furniture with his wife, Helen, with locations in Acton, MA, and later Freeport, ME.

Outside of his professional pursuits, Joe had a passion for gardening, renovating barns, and travel, and was an active member of the Freeport Rotary Club.  We are grateful to the friends, neighbors, and Rotarians who made his life in Maine complete.

Joe is survived by his brother, Fortunato (Frank) Rotondo, his loving wife of 44 years, Helen (Jennekens) (Robbertz) Rotondo, and their children: Anthony and Paul Robbertz, Margaret (Robbertz) Koch, Richard Robbertz, Mark Rotondo and Kathleen (Rotondo) Quinn. Joe leaves behind a legacy of love and devotion to his grandchildren: Matthew and Andrew Robbertz, Eric and Hannah Robbertz; Whitney, Chelsea, and Allison Koch; Tessa, Abigail, and Gabriel Robbertz; Elias, Joseph, Jessica, and Sara Rotondo; and Rosemary and Leanne Quinn. Additionally, he is fondly remembered by his nephews: James and Joseph Rotondo, James and Kevin Doody, and nieces: Mary Ann Westfall, Carol Rotondo, and Ann Marie (Rotondo) Council.  In addition to his parents, Joe is predeceased by his first wife Anne (Doody), sisters Martha (Rotondo) Westfall and Mary Rotondo, and brothers Peter and John Rotondo. 

Family and friends are invited to gather for visiting hours on Thursday, July 20th from 4 to 7 pm at Dee Funeral Home, 27 Bedford Street, Concord, MA. His Funeral Mass will be celebrated on Friday, July 21st at 10 am in St. Bernard’s Church at Holy Family Parish, 12 Monument Square, Concord Center. Burial will follow with U.S. Navy military honors at Sleepy Hollow Cemetery, Concord. A memorial service will be planned and announced at a later date in Freeport, Maine.
