June Grace once said a nice way to honor someone who has passed away is to volunteer for a cause they cared about.
After Grace died in May, Rotarians volunteered in her memory at a build day for the Habitat for Humanity of Greater Lowell home under construction in Concord.
More than two dozen Rotarians from the Concord and Bedford clubs gathered to help paint walls and ceilings of the home over two shifts on July 27. During a lunch break, they shared their memories of working on projects with Grace, an active and engaged volunteer who was always kind and encouraging to her fellow Rotarians.
Grace and her husband, Buck, both enjoyed volunteering at Habitat. She volunteered at the Carter Way Bedford Habitat project as well as at a house in Concord.
A member of Rotary Club of Concord since 2002 and the Rotary Club of Worcester for 9 years prior, Grace was a past president and public relations chair. She worked tirelessly on youth engagement, international projects and local initiatives, including cooking for Open Table.
Grace also hosted events for Minute Man Arc and Gaining Ground, served slush at Picnic in the Park, marched in the Patriots Day parade, was involved in outreach to service people at Hanscom, did prison outreach and was the champion of the Rotary Pops Concert Fundraiser.
“This was a wonderful tribute to our beloved June Grace, who epitomized the Rotary mission of ‘Service above Self,’” said Jean Goldsberry, President of the Rotary Club of Concord.
