The Concord Police Department is warning residents to take precautions amid a series of car thefts and break-ins.
Police said at least two cars were stolen between Sunday night and Monday morning in West Concord.
At 3:15 a.m. Monday, emergency dispatch received a 911 call from a resident who spotted “a couple of suspicious persons in the area of Central Street,” with one possibly having entered a garage, according to Chief Thomas Mulcahy.
Recent incursions are “another reminder to our community” to lock up vehicles, he said.
Police also sent an automated Code Red reminder call to registered phones on Monday about securing cars and not leaving keys or valuables inside “due to recent car breaks and stolen motor vehicles in Concord and surrounding communities.”
A team of Concord detectives is actively investigating the crimes, Lt. Brian Goldman said.
Resident Nicole Hammond said thieves took “petty cash” and a cell phone jack from her car while it was parked in her driveway early Monday. While police were “wonderful in their response,” she said, the incident should be a wake-up call.
When a Code Red call comes in, “You think, ‘[This] isn’t necessarily going to happen in my driveway,” Hammond said. “Well, it happened — so I just want other people to pay attention. Even though we live in a lovely, lovely town, we do need to start locking things up if we’re not already doing so.”
