In this edition of the Concord Free Public Library Corner, we highlight the programs happening through October in The Workshop, the Main Library’s new makerspace! You can also visit The Workshop for Open Maker Hours every Tuesday through Thursday from 1 to 8 p.m. to do self-directed crafting. 

“Girls Who Code Information Session” — Wednesday, September 20 or 27, 5 p.m. 

We invite girls and their families to learn about the Girls Who Code program with GWC facilitators. Over the course of the academic year, GWC members learn a variety of coding skills and work together to produce a project that addresses a real world problem. The adult and teen facilitators have a range of coding and project development skills, and they encourage members to develop their abilities and confidence. Grades 5-8. 

“Craft Our Parade!” — Saturday, September 23, 2 p.m. 

Drop in to make banners and flags for the Library’s 150th birthday parade on October 1st! No registration required. 

“Autumn Paper Wreaths” — Monday, September 25, 3 p.m. or 6 p.m. 

Learn how to cut and assemble your own seasonal autumn wreath using the Workshop’s Cricut machines. Recommended for ages 10+. 

“Sustainable Makes: Hydroponic Planters” — Saturday, September 30, 2 p.m. 

Celebrate Climate Prep Week at the end of September by building your own mini hydroponic system out of a mason jar! Seeds for a variety of leafy greens provided. Recommended for ages 10+. 

“Hanji Paper Mobiles” — Saturday, October 7, 10 a.m. 

Learn about the Korean art of hanji and create your own hanji paper mobiles with artist Jongkuk Lee. Recommended for ages 5+. No registration required. 

“Learn Wet Felting: Sculpting with Wool” — Saturday, October 14 or 28, 2 p.m. 

Learn the basics of wet felting — turning raw wool into fabric using water and soap — from local artist Laurie Engdahl! In this workshop, participants will learn wool-sculpting techniques by creating their own decorative felted bowl to take home. Recommended for ages 10+. 

“3D-In-The-Dark!” — Monday, October 16, 3 p.m. or 6 p.m. 

Learn the basics of 3D modeling and make your own glow-in-the-dark pumpkin, cat, or ghost! Finished 3D prints will be ready for pick-up in about one week. Recommended for ages 10+. 

“Print a Jigsaw Puzzle” — Saturday, October 21, 2 p.m. 

Learn to use our sublimation printer and heat press to create your own keepsake puzzle from a personal photo or drawing! 

“Make a Mug” — Monday, October 23, 3 p.m. or 6 p.m. 

Learn how to use the Workshop’s Cricut machines to design and print your own mug! 

“Laser Cut Keychains” — Monday, October 30, 3 p.m. or 6 p.m. 

Customize and cut your own acrylic or vegan leather keychain using our laser cutter! Finished keychains will be ready for pick-up in about 48 hours. Recommended for ages 10+. 

“Sustainable Makes: Reusable Tote Bags” — Saturday, November 4, 2 p.m. 

Stitch up your own reusable tote bag using our sewing machines. Fabric provided, or bring your own to upcycle! Waiver required. Recommended for ages 10+.
