Whoever writes the headlines at The Concord Bridge appears would benefit from some coaching about Concord’s town government. Today I saw a new article had been posted: “No decision or rush on dam removal: lawmakers.”
The article was about recent comments from the Select Board on Warner’s Pond Dam.
The actual “lawmakers” in Concord are the residents who go to Town Meeting and vote on proposed bylaws. The Select Board will take positions on proposed bylaws, but the decision is up to the residents who vote. The Select Board members cast votes on these proposals as do other residents. So, the Select Board are lawmakers when they vote at Town Meeting, but no more so than other residents.
The Select Board is our executive branch. Town Meeting is our legislative branch.
