Fire Chief Thomas Judge and the Concord Fire Department are pleased to announce the promotion of Assistant Chief Brian Whitney.
“On behalf of the entire department, I would like to congratulate Assistant Chief Brian Whitney on his promotion,” Judge said. “This promotion is well deserved and a reflection of the decades of dedication Assistant Chief Whitney has given to the Concord Fire Department.”
Whitney was sworn into his new rank during a September 14 pinning ceremony. In his new role, he plans to focus on training and expanding the department’s EMS division.
The newly minted assistant chief has over 30 years of service with the department, having first joined as a firefighter in 1991. He was promoted to Lieutenant in 2011 and helped implement the department’s first EMS strategic plan, which resulted in the addition of a second ambulance for the West Concord Fire Station. In 2016, he was promoted to Captain and served as a shift commander before his most recent appointment in July.
Additionally, Whitney has more than 30 years of experience as an instructor at the Massachusetts Fire Academy, and more than 10 years as the Concord Fire Department’s training coordinator.
Assistant Chief Whitney has served with numerous employee organizations throughout his fire service career, including as president of the Concord Fire Fighters Association and on the Professional Fire Fighters of Massachusetts Pension Committee. For 20 years, he’s also been an elected member of the Concord Contributory Retirement Board.
