Richard J. “Rich” Hollingsworth, 74, passed away peacefully surrounded by his loving and beloved family at Care Dimensions Hospice House in Lincoln, MA on Sunday, October 8, 2023. He died due to complications from frontotemporal dementia.
Born June 11, 1949, Rich was raised by parents Marjorie and John Hollingsworth in Philadelphia. The third of four siblings, he was a talented athlete and football player who loved spending his summers on Long Beach Island, NJ.
Rich graduated from Princeton University in 1971 with a bachelor’s degree in electrical engineering, and he also earned a master’s degree in electrical engineering from the University of Pennsylvania in 1974.
Rich had a distinguished career, contributing significantly to the development of semiconductor microchips. He holds several patents in recognition of his innovative work. He started his professional life at RCA Labs in New Jersey, eventually moving to Massachusetts in 1979 to serve as VP of Semiconductor Technology and Manufacturing at Digital Equipment Corporation. From the mid-1990s onward, he served in leadership roles at various New England-based companies, ranging from large corporations such as Intel to start-ups, including C-Port, SMaL Camera Technologies, Nabsys, and Tego.
Rich loved his family and being a dad more than anything else. In 1976, he married Kathleen “Kathy” Molony, and the two moved to Concord in 1979, where they raised their family. Rich relished travel and was a talented amateur photographer, meticulously documenting family memories. He had an insatiable passion for skiing, and especially loved skiing in Stowe, Vail, and St. Anton, Austria. He loved Concord, spending time in Austria, being outdoors, and cooking pancakes and grilling.
Rich was an amiable, kind, generous, and humble human whose warm smile and goofiness lit up every room.
In addition to his wife Kathy, he is survived by daughter Elizabeth Hollingsworth and husband Nicholas Deak, son John Hollingsworth and partner Richard Rivero, sister Carol and husband Merrill Thim, grandpuppy Ralphie, and a large extended family.
Relatives and friends are invited to a public celebration of Rich’s life on Saturday, October 28th at 11 am in Trinitarian Congregational Church, 54 Walden Street, Concord Center. Burial at Sleepy Hollow Cemetery will be private.
