William F. “Bill” Miles, 89, a longtime resident of Concord, died on Thursday, November 2, 2023, at Rivercrest Nursing. He was the husband of the late Joan M. (McLaughlin) Miles.
Bill was born on July 17, 1934, in Cambridge, MA, and graduated from Cambridge Latin School. He was married to Joan from 1962 until her death in 1996. In 1974, they moved to Concord where they raised three children. He was employed for many years at Harvard Trust Company (later Baybank) and managed bank branches in Littleton, Lexington, and Acton. He joined Cambridge Trust Company in 1990 and led the opening of its Concord branch.
During his years in Cambridge, Bill participated in bowling leagues and was member of the Elks Club. Even after moving to Concord, he retained an affection for his former neighborhood in Cambridge. In his professional life, Bill enjoyed his membership in the Rotary Clubs of Littleton, Lexington, and Concord, and in West Concord, he was a long-time parishioner at Our Lady Help of Christians. Bill was a dedicated gardener who found fulfillment in keeping a tidy lawn in summer and dry driveway in winter. When not rooting for the Patriots, Celtics, and especially the Red Sox, he read extensively in history and poetry. A devoted husband and father, he enjoyed time with his family, especially vacations on the Maine coast, and sociable poker games with friends. He was a fan of “the oldies,” both old movies (especially with Astaire and Rogers) and music (especially Sinatra and Bennett).
He was preceded in death by his wife Joan and his brothers Arthur and John “Jack”. Survived by his children, William R. (Deanna Roeder) of Wichita, KS; Susan S. (Kay Gunn) of Maplewood, NJ; and Thomas J. of Chicago, IL; two grandchildren; and many cousins, nieces, and nephews.
Family and friends are invited to a period of visitation at Dee Funeral Home, 27 Bedford Street, Concord Center on Thursday, November 9th from 8:15 to 9:15 am. His Funeral Mass will be celebrated at 9:30 am in St. Bernard’s Church at Holy Family Parish, 12 Monument Square, Concord Center. Burial will follow at Sleepy Hollow Cemetery.
