Covering the signs is a cowardly denial of historical and cultural wrongdoing. What would serve us better and more importantly penitential would be an acknowledging addendum. For example:
We the current settlers of Concord
regretfully acknowledge the cruel indifference
of the early settlers toward the lives and culture of the
the original occupant-owners of this land.
In addition, this should be something the town votes for; not the decision of a few “selected” individuals.
