It was good to see robust discussion of some of the issues surrounding the future of Warner’s Pond. However, I have concerns about the way the Naturals Commission has presented “evidence” as to how and why dam removal is now the “best” choice.
The most obvious point of contention is when the NRC states that dam removal, which will have the effect of reducing the size of the pond by 90%, would provide “enhanced” recreational opportunities. In what alternate universe would the reduction of an existing resource provide an enhancement over current usage and opportunities? The NRC member who read this report admitted, under questioning, that his was a subjective conclusion! This misleading statement by a town committee leads one to wonder if there is other misleading information in the recommendation.
