John Ross Huggins, 87

December 8, 2023

John Ross Huggins, born on July 30, 1936, in San Francisco, CA, peacefully passed away on November 26, 2023, in Concord, MA, at the age of 87. He is survived by his loving wife, Nancy Gwinn Huggins, their children Marshall and Julia, and grandchildren Liam, Wyatt, Ramsey, Peter, and Willem. John was born to Joseph and Lydia Ross Huggins and grew up in San Francisco, Wilton, CT, Baltimore, MD, and Concord, MA.

From an early age, John cherished memories of the Golden Gate Bridge and summers on Aptos Beach, CA. During the war, the family moved to Downingtown, PA, where John attended the Haverford School, excelling in academics and tennis. His passion for tennis led him to the Merion Cricket Club, a place he held dear for four decades. John later attended the University of Pennsylvania’s Wharton Undergraduate Business School, where he demonstrated leadership as the vice president of his Senior Class.

After serving in the National Guard, John founded the American Relocation Service, assisting companies in relocating employees nationally and internationally. His success was highlighted in a New York Times feature, earning him the nickname “preppy Elvis.” Subsequently, he founded Homequity, integrating house buying and selling, and later became CEO of Woodside Management Systems in Baltimore, contributing to its growth as the world’s largest travel organization.

Yet, John considered his family his greatest achievement. Marrying Nancy in 1965, they built a life centered around their children and extended family. He credited Nancy as his greatest asset, providing constant support and love and making significant contributions to their communities while raising their children with care.

A memorial service to honor John will be held on December 13, 2023, at 10:00 am in Duvall Chapel at Newbury Court, Concord. John Ross Huggins will be fondly remembered for his achievements in business, his passion for tennis, and, above all, his devotion to family.
