Margaret J. Benson (Peg)

Margaret J. Benson (Peg) a Suffield, CT resident for 46 years, formerly of Concord, MA died on December 7th in Hartford CT.  She was born in Quincy, Mass in 1932, daughter of the late George & Helen (Walls) Jardine.

Peg was a childhood TB survivor.  From age 2-9, she spent seven years at the New England Peabody Home.  Despite this, she was always positive & could relate to people, remembering interests & names long after the initial meeting.  She graduated from Stoneham High School, Class of 1950 & Burdette College.

She met her beloved husband of 60 years, Arthur Lennart Benson, “Art” at ­­­­­­­­­­­­­­­­­­­­­­­­­Arthur D. Little, where they both worked – married in 1955.  While Art served on the USS Ticonderoga, they lived in Jacksonville, FL, then Oak Ridge, TN, with Art at the Atomic Energy Commission. Missing New England, in 1961, they returned & settled in Concord.  In 1977, they relocated to Congamond Lakes in Suffield, where she loved hosting family gatherings.  Peg divided her time between raising a family and working various secretarial part-time jobs here.

In Concord, she and Art were founders of Heritage Pool. She had a great sense of humor, enjoyed many interests, including bird watching and long daily walks, and was active in the League of Women Voters.  She loved Concord’s history and her time as a Docent at the Old Manse.

She is survived by her four children: Arthur Jr. “Chip” and his wife Roberta (Lane) “Bobbi”,  Concord, MA. Douglas Benson,  New York City. Gregory Benson, West Suffield, CT, his wife Kathy (Kelly) Benson, their three children Kirsten, Katie, and Robbie and his wife Juliana (Wallace) and their daughter Lily Rose.  Kathryn (Benson) Hebert, Granby, CT, and her three children Kelsey, Megan, and her partner Justin Carrier, and Ben and his wife Kathryn (Boit). She is also survived by many nieces and nephews. She is pre-deceased by her husband Arthur, twin sister Nancy Ulrich of Melrose, MA, and younger sister Dorothy Ayres of Stoneham, MA.

A memorial service and celebration of life will be held in the spring.
