Peter P. Orlando, 101

December 21, 2023

Peter P. Orlando, 101, longtime Concord resident, died on December 17, 2023. He was husband of the late Josephine A. (Sapega) Orlando.

He was born on May 9, 1922, the son of the late Paul and Josephine Orlando. Peter often recalled the happiness he experienced during his youth spending time on Cape Cod, calling it the highlight of his pre-Navy life and nurturing what became a lifelong affinity for salt water.

His Naval service spanned over three years and included being aboard the USS ATR-2 as a Radioman just offshore of Omaha Beach during D-Day. He also served as a liaison interpreter for the Navy and French Army. He was invited to return to Normandy in 2019, where the President of France awarded him the Legion of Honour.

After marrying Josie in 1946, the couple settled in Concord, where they raised a family. He had a career in photography for Boston Photo Service, and in printing for CopyCop. He was active with the Concord COA, Knights of Columbus, VFW and Concord Minutemen. He took great pride in his property, growing a spectacular garden every year. He greatly loved and was extremely proud of his grandchildren.

Peter embodied the characteristics that define members of the Greatest Generation. His steadfast patriotism, work ethic, humility and faithful commitment to family and friends will never be forgotten. His unwavering zest for life, genuine good nature and heart of gold will be sorely missed.

He leaves behind two sons, Peter Orlando Jr. and his wife Liz and Robert Orlando and his wife Nancy, three daughters, Susan Pierce and her husband Doug, Janet Trask and her husband Rick and Patti Orlando Tillotson and her husband Peter, along with 15 grandchildren, 19 great grandchildren, and several nieces and nephews. Grandfather of the late David Pierce, Joseph Orlando and Katelyn Gecik. Brother to the late Frank Orlando.

Family and friends are invited to visiting hours at Dee Funeral Home, 27 Bedford Street, Concord on Thursday, December 28th from 4 to 7pm. His Funeral Mass will be celebrated on Friday, December 29th at 10am in Holy Family Parish, Concord. Burial will follow with U.S. Navy military honors at St. Bernard’s Cemetery.
