Barbara F. (Moran) O’Malley, 98, of Concord, passed away January 6, 2024.
She was born in Clinton on January 29, 1925 to the late Patrick J. and Helen T. (Hastings) Moran. It was there that she met her husband, Joseph R. O’Malley, who predeceased her in 1992. The couple moved to Concord in 1953 where they raised their five children.
With visitors frequently in and out of the house, “Mrs. O’Malley” was a favorite of all the kids in the neighborhood. She was a communicant of St. Bernard’s Church and served as a Eucharistic minister, member of Sodality, and committee member in several ministries. Barbara was active, with her husband, Joe, in the early days of the Concord Minutemen, belonged to the Milldames, and, was a frequent participant on trips with the Council on the Aging. She was also an avid bridge player. Above all else, Barbara was devoted to her family and championed her grandchildren.
Barbara was predeceased by her oldest son, Joseph R. O’Malley Jr. She leaves behind her son, Michael O’Malley and his wife, Pauline of Bridgewater, N.H., her daughters, Mary Pat O’Malley of Cambridge, Helen O’Malley of Concord, Barbara O’Malley Cannon and her husband, Franklin “Chip” of Concord and her daughter-in-law, Lorie Davis of Concord; her grandchildren, Meeghan Piemonte Pierce and her husband, Sean, McCall O’Malley, Mara O’Malley and her fiancé, Alex Kramer, Logan O’Malley and his wife, Dakota, F. Adam Cannon and his partner, Amber Glass, Patrick Cannon, and Mitchell Cannon; and her great grandchildren Nora and Mary Pierce, Ronan and Mason O’Malley; as well as many nieces and nephews. Additionally, she is survived by her sister, Mary Warner of Stuart, Florida, and was predeceased by her sister, Margaret Machado. Barbara was a true matriarch, and will be sorely missed by all who had the good fortune to know her.
Family and friends will gather for visiting hours at Dee Funeral Home, 27 Bedford Street, Concord Center on Friday, January 12th from 4 to 7 pm. Barbara’s funeral will be held on Saturday, January 13th at 9 am from Dee Funeral Home, followed by a Funeral Mass at 10 am in St. Bernard’s Church at Holy Family Parish, 12 Monument Square, Concord Center. Burial will follow at St. Bernard’s Cemetery, Concord.
