Physically, ArtScape is “a suite of artist studios and exhibit spaces located in West Concord’s Bradford Mill,” says Director Ann Sussman. “Conceptually, we use art to help people tap their creative potential. I believe in the transformative power of art. Creativity drives change, and ArtScape helps people access their creativity.”
Since its founding in 2010, ArtScape has been organizing local exhibits that showcase the creative work of artists of all ages, backgrounds, and abilities.
Most shows have an open call, welcoming submissions from anyone, Sussman says. Many participants in ArtScape’s exhibits are displaying their works publicly for the first time. For some, she says, it’s their first time creating art.
ArtScape’s shows often revolve around open-ended prompts designed to inspire participants’ creative muses. For an upcoming exhibit, the prompt is “Sunrise+Sunset.” Sussman expects to see wide-ranging interpretations, some literal (a sunrise or sunset) and some metaphorical (beginnings and endings).
“Sunrise+Sunset” opens January 18 in ArtScape’s Main Gallery and runs through February 28.
In March and April, ArtScape will curate an exhibit at the Fowler Library with works sparked by the idea of “Art in Bloom.”
There are nine exhibits planned for 2024 — three at the Fowler Branch Library and six at ArtScape’s Main Gallery on the second floor of 43 Bradford Street. The gallery is open to the public on weekdays from 10:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m.
