It’s been a busy stretch for the Concord-Carlisle boys’ and girls’ basketball teams – and one with mixed results.
The girls’ team played four games in six days, three of them on the road, and went 2-2 for the week. Meanwhile, the boys’ team had three games in five days, two of them on the road, and went 1-2 on the week.
The girls finished the week of February 2 with a 56-46 win over Wayland. The Patriots used a 23-point fourth quarter to pull away from the Warriors for the win. Senior Captain Addison Shen scored seven of her game-high 21 points in the final quarter for the Patriots. Shen added 12 rebounds for the double-double and added four blocks. Senior Captain Brook Boyle and freshman May Isenberg each scored 10 points to aid the Concord-Carlisle High School offense.
CC started the week with a Sunday game at Leominster on January 28 and came away with a disappointing 53-51 overtime loss. Boyle led the team with 15 points, senior Captain Karleigh Mutch added 14 and junior Ali Davigian scored 12.
The game at Westford Academy on January 30 produced the first win of the week for CC, with a final score of 56-37. Boyle had a game-high 17 points to lead the Patriots. Shen added 13 and Mutch 12 as the three captains led the way.
At Braintree on January 31, the Patriots lost 57-41, with Mutch leading CC scoring with 14 points. Boyle added 10 and Jill Brennan scored nine.
The boys’ team’s lone win came at home against Westford Academy on January 30 as they edged the Ghosts 40-38. The senior captain had a career-high 16 points, including four three-pointers. He added four rebounds and three assists. Chris Soillis and Griff Niemann each scored eight points.
“Jed had it going early,” said Head Coach Dan Hunt. Cain scored 11 of the Patriots’ first 18 points, and at that time had outscored Westford 11-6.
“We will take the wins as we can get them,” added Hunt. “We showed patience and we executed tonight.”
The junior varsity team recorded its first win of the season as they defeated Westford 61-60 in overtime. The game was tied 53-all in regulation. The Patriots made six of eight free throws in overtime, including two by Andrew Gilmore that tied the game at 57-57. Jay Fernandes hit a free throw to give CC a 58-57 lead and then a jumper to put them up 60-57. Lucas Lundberg added a free throw with 15.7 seconds remaining for the winning margin.
At Wayland on February 2, the boys lost another close game, this one 46-45. Nick Charles scored a team-high 16 points. Jed Cain added 11 points as the two seniors led the CC offense.
CC closed the week with a 48-41 loss to Newton South on February 3 as Newton returned to action after the district’s teacher strike ended. Soillis had a team-high nine points. Niemann and Tristan Dressler each scored seven points for the Patriots.
