In Liz Cobbs we have a unique opportunity to elect a highly qualified individual to our School Committee whose background and experience could not be more suited to such a role. I got to know Liz well when we served as co-chairs of an effort by the League of Women Voters of Concord-Carlisle to hold a series of forums on Diversity, Equity and Inclusion.
Liz graduated from Bates College and earned a PhD in Sociology from the University of Chicago. She and her husband spent six years in Japan, where Liz ran the Health Policy Office for Merck and her husband worked as a diplomat with the U.S. State Department.
Liz moved to Concord four years ago. She and her husband were attracted to Concord because of the excellent schools, which have met the needs of her two children who attend CCHS and Alcott. In addition, Liz recognized that our town is fortunate to have active and committed citizens who make Concord the incredible place that it is.
It did not take Liz long to get involved herself. She currently serves as co-chair of the Personnel Board. And she has volunteered at her children’s schools and has worked with METCO students, spending countless hours tutoring students and helping with their college applications.
Liz’s ability to respectfully foster collaboration and consensus building will make her an outstanding member of the School Committee.
