I would like to weigh in on the naming of the Concord Middle School. I have been a resident of Concord for over 40 years and my sons went to Alcott, Sanborn and Concord-Carlisle High School and then on to college. They now have excellent careers and great kids.
Concord, in my perspective, is known for its intelligent citizens, caring and resourceful people, and commitment to education. Ellen Garrison in the mid-1800s symbolized all these wonderful traits. And, I would add bravery and commitment to racial equality and social justice, which I hope will also soon be characteristics of Concord.
I strongly encourage the School Committee to select Ellen Garrison for the name of the new school. It would make me proud, again, to be a citizen of Concord.
