I am writing to express my wholehearted endorsement of Joe Laurin for the Concord Select Board. As a friend of Joe’s for over 14 years and a fellow parent and long-time member of the Concord community, I have had the privilege of witnessing Joe’s dedication, intelligence, and compassion firsthand.
From our shared experiences coaching youth soccer to our involvement in Cub Scouts with our sons, I have seen Joe’s unwavering commitment to supporting the youth in our town and ensuring that Concord remains a nurturing environment for families. His caring nature extends beyond his immediate circle to his active involvement in local charities and educational initiatives, such as the Scholarship Fund of Concord & Carlisle, Kicks for Cancer and the CCHS Football program.
I’d like to share an anecdote from when Joe and I coached youth soccer together. It was our concern that all the players got equal time on the field. Joe became known to all of the parents on the sidelines as the “spreadsheet coach” because for each game he had a spreadsheet to help us with player substitutions so each player got fair playing time and a chance to try different positions, while also ensuring we played to our team strengths and won games. This kind of analytical thinking, fairness and practicality will serve our town well as we address pressing issues like balancing maintaining top-quality schools while also ensuring Concord is an affordable place to live.
I hope you will join me in supporting Joe for the Select Board.
