David A. Crowell of Concord, formerly of Glen Ridge, New Jersey, died on April 3, 2024, at The Gardens of Newbury Court. He was 95 years old.
Born on September 23, 1928, to Pauline W. Crowell and Thomas Irving Crowell, Jr., David was raised in Caldwell, New Jersey, along with his three brothers. He attended College High School in Montclair, New Jersey, and then Yale University, from which he received a B.A. in 1950. David served in the United States Marine Corps from 1950-1952.
In 1957, he joined the Chase Manhattan Bank, where he had a 30-year career in consumer banking and commercial lending. David married Helen Gibbs Bennett on June 6, 1959, and they raised their three children, John, Paul, and Elizabeth, in Upper Montclair and Glen Ridge.
A nearly lifelong citizen of the Montclair area, David was a longtime member of the First Congregational Church of Montclair and was affiliated for over 20 years with Boy Scout Troop 12 of Montclair. In retirement he was an active amateur musician and was in several informal chamber music groups. He moved with Helen to Concord in 2013.
David was predeceased by his wife, Helen, his parents, his brothers James and Thomas, and his grandson James. He is survived by his three children, John (Theresa) of Kalamazoo, Michigan, Elizabeth (Cheryl Flynn) of Concord, Paul (Alexandra Stillman) of Falcon Heights, Minnesota, his grandchildren Isabel and Matthew, and his brother Kenneth L. Crowell.
