I would like to express my concerns about the proposed “Residences at Thoreau” housing project.
The Zoning Board of Appeals is being asked to approve this 216-unit development, consisting of three three-story buildings adjacent to the Thoreau Club on Forest Ridge Road. The application was submitted as a “40B” development since Concord had slightly fewer than 10% affordable housing units at the time.
My primary concern is the sheer size of the project, given that it will cover over 70% of the 13-acre site with impermeable surfaces: buildings, roadways, and parking. The project would have a significant, negative, impact on the Ground Water Conservancy District, traffic on Forest Ridge Road and Route 62 through West Concord and the environment — given the planned forest removal and increased fossil fuel use.
Concord residents should oppose this project unless it is extensively modified to align with the values of our community.
