Ellen Garrison, previously not as well known as some of our historical figures, has always been an equally important figure in Concord’s history. Ellen Garrison has been part of the sixth grade social studies curriculum, along with our more familiar names, Sanborn and Peabody.
As construction of the new middle school grows, one notices that it is a wide building. Wide enough to have the banner name Concord Middle School, with two wings; one called “The Sanborn Wing” and the other “The Peabody Wing.”
Ellen Garrison was an educator who taught children, unable to get an education, to read. Her name should be the name of the new middle school library: “The Ellen Garrison Library.’
