A Medford man is dead after police say his car rear-ended another, causing a three-car pileup on Route 2 in Concord on Wednesday afternoon.
Steven Marchand, 70, was driving in his 1984 Chevrolet Monte Carlo in the eastbound lane near Walden Street just after 1 p.m. when his car collided with another in front of him, sparking a chain-reaction crash that involved three vehicles, police said in a statement.
Marchand was taken to a nearby hospital where he was pronounced dead.
A 26-year-old driver of another car involved in the crash was also taken to the hospital with minor injuries. The third driver was uninjured.
The left travel lane through Concord was closed for nearly two hours as police investigated the crash and cleared the scene.
State Police are investigating. Concord Police, Fire, EMS and MassDOT assisted in the emergency response.
