Contributing photographer Jean Fain shared these images of Cornish Cross chickens growing up at Marshall Farm.
The chicks, aged three weeks at the time Fain made the pictures, are meat birds, not egg birds, she said.
Fain said Ricky Marshall and Ashley Murray had seven pasture-raised chickens their first year. This year, that’s gone up to 600.
As to the age-old question of which came first, Fain said Marshall Farms has been in the chicken and egg business for a decade, but only in the meat bird business for three.
