Robert Lessey Fish was born on July 23, 1936, in Melrose. He was the son of Frederick Lessey Fish and Ruth Worthen Fish and the younger brother of the late Gloria Worthen Chick of Concord.
Robert graduated from Governor Dummer Academy in 1954, pursued a bachelor’s degree at Princeton University in Economics, and successfully completed the Army Field Artillery ROTC program, graduating in 1958. Robert served his country proudly in the U.S. Army until honorably discharged in 1968. Soon following, Robert received the Gold Medal from the Commonwealth of Massachusetts Certified Public Accountancy and enjoyed a lifelong successful career as a private business owner and consultant.
Robert married the love of his life, Sarah Graf Fish, on June 5, 1958, in Manchester, New Hampshire, and they were married for over 65 years. Their love story was one of mutual love and admiration as they worked as partners in growing their family together in Concord. Robert was the picture of devotion to his wife and, in turn, his children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren, in whom their love story lives on.
Together, he and Sarah taught their children virtues including courage, strength, and resilience. Many years later, they taught some of what their grandchildren consider their greatest gifts, including the gift of golf, wisdom and thoughtfulness, incomparable work ethic, and a love for one’s family that transcends the joys of this earth.
Robert dedicated himself to his friendships in all corners of the earth, from his friends in the Army to his friends from his childhood in Wolfeboro, New Hampshire, who he remained close with, and friendships at Harbour Ridge in Florida and at Concord Country Club in Concord. People admired Robert, respected him and his mind, and could not help but smile at his wit whenever they were near him.
Robert passed away peacefully on June 27, surrounded by his family at their summer home in Wolfeboro, New Hampshire. He will be remembered for his profound intellect, his love for his family and his country, his unmatched work ethic, and his ability to find the humor in all circumstances. Robert’s legacy will live on proudly in his three daughters, his grandchildren, and great-grandchildren, all of whom strive to resemble his spirit in all of their endeavors.
There will be a private memorial service for the family at the Puritan Lawn in Peabody.
