UPDATED: A 62-year-old Allston man pulled from the waters of Walden Pond on Wednesday in an apparent drowning has died, the Middlesex District Attorney’s office confirmed.
Preliminary information from District Attorney Marian Ryan suggests the man was swimming outside the designated swimming area and had been seen wearing snorkeling gear.
Other swimmers saw the man unresponsive in the water 200 feet from shore and alerted authorities, the DA said in a statement.
Lifeguards working for the state Department of Conservation and Recreation pulled the man to shore and performed CPR until other emergency services arrived.
The Concord Fire Department transported the victim to the hospital. “My understanding is that [the person was] pronounced dead at the hospital,” Concord Police Captain Brian Goldman said.
The DA confirmed the man died at Emerson, but authorities declined to identify him Thursday.
State Police are handling the investigation into the death since the drowning occurred at a state park, local authorities said.
Neither State Police nor DCR immediately responded to questions on Thursday morning.
