While walking in the Town Forest (Fairyland) this past week, I noticed that the pond is filling in with plants. The pond has become so overgrown, it is hard to see the water at all. It is disappointing to see the lack of attention to maintaining the pond as open water, given how restful a place it has been for walkers to pause in its cool environment, watching the turtles, heron, and other wildlife attracted to the pond. The area near the outflow from the pond was a place where children and their families could fish, but now the overgrowth makes that impossible.
Please shed some light on this issue for us. I am hoping the Historic Commission, the Department of Recreation, and/or the Natural Resources Commission will explain the rationale for letting this happen, and, hopefully, let the community know there is a plan to bring back open water to the Fairyland Pond.
