The state Department of Conservation and Recreation has awarded Concord a MassTrails Grant Award to link the Bruce Freeman Rail Trail and the West Concord Business District to Baker Avenue.
The $403,000 grant for the Assabet River Multi-Use Trail and Bridge will fund construction of a path and bridge that can be used by pedestrians and bicyclists.
This phase of the Bruce Freeman Trail, which will run from the Concord/Sudbury line to Station Road in Sudbury at the Mass Central Rail Trail, is slated for completion in June 2025.
“Having safe and convenient ways for all individuals to get outside, get some exercise and get around town without a car is crucial,” state Rep. Carmine Gentile (D-Sudbury) said in a release.
Rep. Simon Cataldo (D-Concord) said the trail will “provide a vital link from the Baker Avenue offices and soon-to-be residences to the small businesses, Commuter Rail, and recreation activities available in West Concord Village.”
MassTrails provides grants to support recreational trail and shared-use pathway projects across the Commonwealth.
Eligible grant activities include project development, design, engineering, permitting, construction, and maintenance of trails.
