The summer storm that blasted through Concord Wednesday focused its wrath on trees and knocked out power to parts of town.

Concord Police notified residents at around 4:33 p.m. that a toppled tree had blocked Westford Road near Lowell Street.

Reader Wendy McNally sent photos from Westford Road.

“Everyone is safe and fortunately no cars were passing at the time,” McNally told The Concord Bridge via email. “There are still some large stumps and what is left standing of the tree to be picked up, but it is off the road in front of our house.”

At around the same time, crews were at work just off the Rotary on a stretch of Route 2A/Elm Street between Concord and Acton, dealing with a tree limb pulling on power lines as drivers navigated one-lane traffic.

And reader Anna Travias sent a photo of a downed tree that came down on Blue Jay Drive and “completely cut off residents from leaving our homes.”

Officials also reported that areas of town, including Annursnac Hill, had lost electricity.

By Thursday afternoon, the Concord Municipal Light Plant outage map showed nearly all customers’ service restored.
