Daniel Estabrook Beede, 75, of New Holland, Pennsylvania, passed away on Friday, September 13, 2024, at Lancaster General Hospital. Born in Concord, he was the son of the late Everett Bennett Beede and Hildreth Wheeler Beede.
Dan grew up in Concord and graduated from Concord-Carlisle High School in 1967. He served
honorably in the United States Air Force and then moved to Pennsylvania. In 1989, he returned to Concord, where he stayed until the fall of 2018, at which time he returned to Pennsylvania and resided in Lancaster and later in New Holland until his death.
For 26 years, Dan was a member of the Concord Elks Lodge and later the Hudson Elks Lodge; he also served as a trustee of the Concord Lodge.
He is survived by his four siblings, Roxanna Wisniewski (Charles) of Rochdale; Abigail MacDonald (James) of Quaker Hill, Connecticut; Martha Gilbert of Simsbury, Connecticut; and Lucy Green (Peter) of Sudbury. He also leaves seven nephews, one niece, six grandnephews and six grandnieces.
Dan was preceded in death by his partner, Jackie Shoff. He is also survived by his “PA family”: Tracy Shoff, Larry Thomas, seven grandchildren, and nine great-grandchildren, and Randy and Niki (Veda) Brown of Lancaster, Pennsylvania.
Dan was known to many by his self-styled moniker — “The Cranky Yankee” — which suited him well.
Burial at Mount Auburn Cemetery, Cambridge, will be held at a later date.
