My husband and I are proud senior residents of Concord. We have lived in West Concord for more than 44 years.
It is very discouraging that we cannot take advantage of the new curbside collection program. The size and weight of the toters are unmanageable for us. We have the additional challenge of a steep driveway which ends directly on Main Street with no sidewalk buffer. That combination makes it impossible for us to use the new system.
I talked with Justine St. John and although she understood the dilemma, she was very clear that Concord Public Works does not have any alternative for us or any other residents facing similar difficulties. The one suggestion that she made was the offer of a slightly smaller (68- vs. 96-gallon) recycling container which will be available sometime after the original toters are delivered. That is certainly not helpful.
I have not found anyone to move the filled containers down and up the driveway each week for a reasonable fee. My only option is to hire a private contractor for trash/recycling removal services at a significantly greater cost than the town program, and that is what I have done.
I am requesting that the Town of Concord and Concord Public Works demonstrate a commitment to addressing the needs of all town residents by providing an alternative to the new trash/recycle collection program for those of us who require it.
