Attention, all dog lovers, dog owners, and dog walkers.
Concord has a wonderful breadth of open land for use by all. Dogs are welcome on most land and, on certain trails, may be off leash if under the owner’s control. Please let us not lose this privilege due to actions by some inattentive owners.
On Sunday, September 22, I was walking on the Simon Willard land with my family, including my three young grandchildren. As we were leaving, a dog ran up to the children and began sniffing at them. The children were terrified, screaming and crying and clinging to the adults.
The dog owner did nothing to remove the dog. When addressed, we were informed that “this is a trail.” After some discussion, the owner left in his car.
Please, all, be mindful that while your dog may be friendly, there are those who are scared of dogs, those who are allergic to dogs, and those who simply do not like dogs. Please keep your pet under your control, which includes keeping them from others until it is clear they are welcome.
Thank you.
