Concord Conservatory of Music’s 2024-25 concert and lecture series will launch October 25 with a program titled “Inspirations.”
Conservatory faculty member and award-winning pianist Yelena Beriyeva will perform Johannes Brahms’ introspective composition “Klavierstücke,” followed by Claude Debussy’s “Estampes” (meaning stamps from exotic places), which was inspired by sounds of the Middle and Far East.
She will conclude the concert with Modest Mussorgsky’s “Pictures at an Exhibition,” a musical depiction of the composer’s visit to an exhibition of work by artist Viktor Hartmann.
Born in Georgia in Eastern Europe, Beriyeva has won several local and international piano competitions and has appeared on radio and television. She made her first concerto appearance with an orchestra at age 5.
Beriyeva has taught classical piano for years and has performed regularly as a recitalist, chamber musician, and soloist with orchestras worldwide.
The Conservatory’s November 22 program, “Music & Identity: Your Listener Profile,” will address the question “Why do we gravitate to certain music?” and feature guest speaker Susan Rogers, a record producer for Prince and Barenaked Ladies.
Rogers is a Berklee College of Music professor and the author of the book “This Is What It Sounds Like.” The interactive event will include performances by The Adventure Time Trio with Rick Stone on alto saxophone, Sean Farias on bass, and CCM faculty artist Brooke Sofferman on drums.
Tickets for the October 25 concert can be purchased in advance or at the door for $25 and are free for students 18 and under. For more information on the Conservatory’s 2024-25 season, visit concordconservatory.org.
