Concord Police log highlights: October 2-8, 2024

Wednesday, October 2

2:18 p.m. The owner of a Thoreau Street store reported a “suspicious” man who had been in the shop for an extended period of time without buying anything. Police responded and determined the man was browsing. The owner declined to press trespassing charges against the man.

2:42 p.m. Concord Public Works reported “possible youth” building bike jumps out of dirt and digging holes at South Meadow Field. Police took photos.

6:49 p.m. Acton police called to report a hit-and-run crash in their town involving a car last seen headed toward Concord via Powder Mill Road. Concord police found the suspected car in a driveway and learned the crash had occurred in Maynard. Maynard police confirmed the crash but said it happened with a different vehicle, and no services were required. 

7:31 p.m. A Monsen Road resident reported someone knocked on her door twice while all lights were off in the house and outside. Police determined the knocks may have come from an Amazon delivery driver.

Thursday, October 3

2:39 a.m. A Laws Brook Road resident reported two men were playing with children’s toys near Rideout Field. The caller said the men, who pulled up in a white pickup truck, “were loud and possibly under the influence.” The men left before police arrived.

9:10 a.m. An Elsinore Street resident reported that someone stole a package from his porch on October 1. Police responded.

1:44 p.m. A Keyes Road resident reported an attempted scam where a caller tried to get Medicare information.

4:26 p.m. Police cited an unlicensed driver following a traffic stop at the Laws Brook Road and Hillside Avenue intersection. Police issued a summons and ordered the car towed.

5:24 p.m. Police cited an unlicensed motorist for driving a car with a revoked registration due to lapsed insurance. Police issued a court summons for all three offenses and ordered the car towed.

Friday, October 4

4:49 a.m. A 7-Eleven customer flagged down a police car for help figuring out when the next train was coming. The man told the officer he thought someone had stolen his sweater, and police helped him find it. The officer advised of the upcoming inbound and outbound train times and left the man waiting for the train.

9:36 a.m. A Range Road woman reported an injured bird in her yard. Police notified the animal control officer for follow-up.

10:24 a.m.  An Elm Street woman requested to speak with the animal control officer about animals getting into her trash. 

2:06 p.m. A Chestnut Street resident reported an unwelcome squirrel intruded into their home. Police notified the animal control officer for follow-up.

3:08 p.m. A woman reported her car was struck while parked and unoccupied on Elsinore Street on October 3. Police are investigating.

Saturday, October 5

5:45 a.m. A motorist called 911 to report her car struck a tree lying across Garfield Road near Brigham Wood. She was not injured. Police notified Public Works to clear the tree from the roadway.

9:42 a.m. An Elsinore Street resident reported a lost gray and white medium-hair cat. Police notified the animal control officer for follow-up.

3:07 p.m. A woman reported someone had sideswiped her car while it was parked on Thoreau Street a week before. Police noticed minimal vehicle damage and advised the woman to contact her insurance company due to the time that had passed and a lack of further information.

6:21 p.m. Multiple 911 callers reported a driver was “potentially unconscious and unresponsive at the wheel” on Route 2 eastbound near Sudbury Road. A passerby then reported the driver was awakened and continued driving. Police caught up with the motorist at the Pump and Pantry gas station and determined there were “no issues or medical concerns.”

Sunday, October 6

2:14 a.m. A 7-Eleven employee reported a man entered the store, lay down on the floor, and told staff “he was cold and tired and wanted to sleep there.” Police responded and dropped the man off at his address.

10:13 p.m. A traffic stop on Route 2 eastbound near Old Road to Nine Acre Corner ended with a tow and a court summons for the driver after police found the vehicle they were driving was uninsured with a suspended registration. A friend picked up the driver.

Monday, October 7

8:30 a.m. Police stopped a speeding driver on Laws Brook Road at Wedgewood Commons and found the car was uninsured with a revoked registration. Police ordered the vehicle towed and cited the motorist on all three infractions.

11:12 a.m. A Lanes End resident reported receiving three credit card rejections despite not applying for any. He told police he believed someone was using his information to attempt to open credit card accounts. Police responded.

Tuesday, October 8

12:56 p.m. The town Cemetery Office reported a car hit a pole on Court Lane. There were no injuries or damage to the pole, but police issued a written warning to the driver for failure to stop.

3:43 p.m.  A caller reported a “suspicious” dark-colored Subaru parked in the lot of the Harvey Wheeler Community Center. The caller said it appeared the driver was watching the children in the school. The car was gone when police arrived.
