I received a small bumper sticker today after giving $25 to my candidate of choice. I’ve always done this; however, I hesitated applying it to my car. This hesitation, I shockingly realized, was caused by fear. Nothing panic-inducing for sure, but fear nonetheless.
As I walked out of my house to my car, I thought of sticking it on my mailbox rather than on my car; that way only my neighbors would see it and I wouldn’t risk what might happen out in the world. Something more than just attention? Something dangerous? Then I got a bit angry. You’re actually going to succumb to this petty fear? No way.
As I applied it to my car I thought, “This is a sad state of affairs.”
