I am writing to express my deep concern about hunting and gun use on and near Warner’s Pond.
Eight years ago, on Wright Road, where I live with my family, a terrifying incident shook our home. Birdshot hit our roof while hunters were nearby, jolting us awake. My 1-year-old son, startled from sleep, cried inconsolably as we tried to make sense of the chaos. The police arrived quickly, sharing our alarm at the dangerous proximity of the gunfire.
This wasn’t the first time — it’s been an ongoing issue that poses a serious safety hazard. While I fully support hunting and gun safety rights, this situation crossed a line, putting my family at risk. Responsible hunting practices are crucial, especially in areas where people live and children play.
The presence of hunting poses significant safety risks, particularly for children like my son, as well as others in the area.
My goal with several neighborhood families is for hunting to cease in the land adjacent to Gerow Park, Warner’s Pond, Bruce Freeman Rail Trail, and nearby homes and roadways.
Thank you for considering this important safety measure. I am happy to discuss this further or support efforts to protect our community.
