Open Door Theater, based locally in Acton, is one of the only integrated, accessible theater companies in the nation to stage full-scale productions featuring actors with disabilities, who are deaf, on the autism spectrum, neurodiverse, and have blindness, mobility and cognitive challenges.
For its 43rd season, Open Door Theater is performing The SpongeBob Musical through special arrangement with Concord Theatricals, with seven shows in March 2023.
- Over half of the 52-person cast self-identify as having disabilities.

The stakes are higher than ever in this dynamic stage musical, as SpongeBob and all of Bikini Bottom face the total annihilation of their undersea world. Take a deep dive and get absorbed in this irreverent, delightful adaptation of the beloved cartoon.The cast includes actors who are Deaf, neurodiverse, on the Autism spectrum, have Down syndrome, and/or have mobility and cognitive challenges, with a fantastic score and brilliant choreography. In true Open Door fashion, it highlights diversity, courage, and friendship.
