More than 250 runners, spectators and volunteers gathered to participate in the 15th running of the Thoreau School Road Race on May 21.
The event featured an all-ages 5-kilometer, and a kids run of approximately one kilometer.
“We really enjoy putting on this event each spring,” said race co-director Brian McNamara. “All the runners do such a great job, and we’re fortunate to be supported by such a strong community.”
The event kicked off with the 5k at 9 a.m., won by Matt Conroy of Concord. Matt was followed closely by Alex Wimbush and Ryan Tolfree. Carol Caron took home first prize in the women’s race. Not to be outdone by her husband, Alyson Wimbush placed second, and Lyndsay Murray rounded out the top 3.
The highlight of the day however were the enthusiastic and fleet children who completed the kids run. Ethan Elms, 11, won the race in a sprint finish over Ivy Nash,12, who took first place girls honors. Robbie Morgan, 8, and Logan Michael, 10, ran for second and third in the boys division, and Violet Nash, 10, and Eva Wimbush, 8, rounded out the girls top three.
