Kicks for Cancer started in 2007 with one soccer game to honor the life of Lois Wells, the mother of Concord-Carlisle soccer alums Steve Wells and Dan Wells, who died of ovarian cancer in 2007. Steve Wells, now a special education teacher at Concord-Carlisle, has seen the annual late September event grow into an all-day tournament with some of the region’s top boys’ and girls’ soccer teams. The Concord-Carlisle boys’ soccer team, one of the top-ranked teams in eastern Massachusetts, stands for the national anthem before a highly anticipated match against Lincoln-Sudury to conclude the annual Kicks for Cancer fundraiser at Concord-Carlisle High School. Volleyball, football, field hockey and ultimate frisbee games were also played, all raising funds for the Dana-Farber Cancer Institute’s ovarian cancer research.
