Seven weeks into its season, the Concord-Carlisle High School Field Hockey (CCFH) program is firing on all cylinders.
The varsity team boasts a record of 9-1-1, the junior varsity team is undefeated at 11-0, and the 9th grade team is 7-1, outscoring its opponents 48-2. Equally as important as the win-loss record, the program has progressed in its goal to create a positive, fun and inclusive community for its student athletes.
The CCFH program is fortunate to have 48 players, enabling the ability to field three teams and schedules. While players are rostered for a specific team, there is fluidity across the teams, allowing players to gain valuable playing experience at different levels.
CCFH Varsity Coach Jacqui Turner said the program “has a large and talented group of student athletes who are working hard to learn and develop as individuals, as a team and as a program. I’m pleased with the progress we’ve made and am excited for what is ahead.”
After suffering its lone loss to a strong Reading team in mid-September, the varsity team is on an eight-game winning streak, outscoring opponents 39-3.
More than 10 players have notched a varsity goal this season, a testament to the team’s versatility. Juniors Kate Francini and Fei-Yang Sady lead scoring, with solid contributions from forward senior Alex Cardoos, junior Lauren Carey and sophomore Brynn Chaffee. The team’s midfield is robust, with senior captains Julia Lambert and Hadley Swenson as well as sophomore Kaia Triola and freshman Avery Swenson. CC’s defense has held strong with seniors Mia Tambor and Cira Letteri, sophomore Lilly Woodman and freshman Ally Couto.
Last, but certainly not least, senior Captain Siena Triola and junior Crista Celi have shared time anchoring the defense in goal. After seeing field time limited by an injury, senior captain Elise Sohn hopefully will be back on the pitch shortly.
Looking ahead, the varsity and JV schedule includes games against highly ranked Franklin, Acton-Boxboro and Needham, as well as rematches with Dual County League foes Wayland and Lincoln-Sudbury. The 9th grade team will face opponents including North Andover, Andover, Belmont and Newton North.
