CCHS girls soccer notches 1st-round MIAA win

Led by senior captains Nora Smith, Abby Gibson, and the injured Avery Cox, the Dual County League champion CCHS girls varsity soccer team claimed a decisive 2-0 victory over Algonquin Regional High School on November 5 at Memorial Field.

With the win, CCHS advanced to the round of 16 to face King Philip Regional High School.

CCHS opened strong against Algonquin as sophomore Emmy O’Donnell scored within the first five minutes, setting the tone. Through quick passing and control, CC kept Algonquin on defense for most of the first half.

Algonquin attempted a few shots, but sophomore goalie Aubrey Monaghan, with support from freshman defenders Catherine Kilmartin, Renee Feigh, and sophomore Teagan Graham, ensured they remained scoreless. CCHS ended the half with a 1-0 lead.

Junior Liv Delaney’s precise goal in the 62nd minute made the score 2-0, providing some breathing room. Algonquin made one last attempt, drawing goalkeeper Monaghan to the edge of the box, but Graham intervened, deflecting the shot to secure the shutout.

The team finished its regular season at 11-4-2 overall and 5-1-1 in the Dual County League, emerging as DCL champions.
